This chain was started in the hope of bringing prosperity to me. Within 20 minutes call up the U. S. Transfer Co., and send any one of the above mentioned names one bale of hay, two pairs of old socks, and all your used razor blades.  Kindly remove my name from the top of the list and add it to the bottom.  If this chain is broken, have it mended and send the bill to the FERA.


From the Pittsburgh Press (undated clipping): UP, Denver, May 3. Headline: "Chain Letter Nets Scoffer Bale of Hay." Subtitle: "Physician May Feel Like ASS But He Could Use a Horse."  Dr. H. E. Coakley received a bale of hay at his office after mailing "several hundred copies of the "chain letter to end all chain letters." "In part, this chain letter read (as above)."
