Spring -- Scholarship Interviews:
Each spring we have the privilege of interviewing some of the top local
high
school and community college students who will be attending Cal that
fall.
We interview for the Alumni Leadership Scholarship.

Spring -- New Student Reception:
Each April, we hold a reception for all the local students who have
been admitted to Cal for the following fall. Representatives from the
Cal campus (financial aid, housing, etc.) are there along with members
of our Club. The
purpose of the reception is to answer the questions of both the
students and
their parents, and to let the students know that they are not alone
heading
to Berkeley.

Summer -- Beach Cleanup:
This will be our annual effort to do our part in keeping our local
beaches and oceans clean and safe! The bags and bags full of garbage
left on our local
beaches end up in the ocean and are not only polluting and harmful to
marine
life, but can be downright dangerous to the people enjoying the beach.
So come join other local Cal Alumni and make a difference in our
community. Further details will be available as the date gets closer.

Fall -- College Fair:
Members of our local club will be representing Cal at the annual
College Fairs at Santa Barbara City College. During the day is the Fair
for SBCC students
who will be transfering to four year colleges, and in the evening is
the
Fair for high school students. The participation of local alumni in
both
of these events is key to continuing to attract the best and the
brightest
to attend Cal the next fall.

November -- Big Game Wine and Cheese:
During the week of Big Game, in Berkeley, there is the Big Game Bonfire
Rally:
Here in Santa Barbara, we have a slightly calmer social event to
get revved up for the game. It's a fun chance to get together with
other local Cal fans to talk about the the Bears' chances (or to talk
about anything else
but football!). The event is held on a weekday evening during the week
before
the Big Game.
Watch your mail in early November for the announcement the exact time
and location.
Bi-Monthly Event Planning Meetings:
Ever wonder how we come up with the events we do? Ever think, "I wish
the Cal Club would do...?" Do you just want to meet some more local Cal
Alumni? Then join us for our bi-monthly event planning meeting.

Ongoing -- Scholarship Endowment Fundraising:
Our club in in the midst of an ambitious fundraising effort to endow a
California
Alumni Leadership Scholarship to allow our club to make additional
awards
to worthy local students attending Cal. We are well on our way toward
our
goal of creating a $25,000 endowment that will generate a $1000 award
for
a local student each and every year! But we still have a long way to
go.
This effort is part of the California Alumni Association's $10
Million "We Grow Leaders" Scholarship Campaign, which is in turn part
of the Berkeley campus's $1.1 Billion "New Century" Campaign. These
campaigns continue until
December 31, 2000. That may seem like a long way off, but the date is
marching
closer by the day!
