HOBO Humidity and Temperature Logger

The HOBO Humidity and Temperature Logger is equipped with an internal temperature sensor on 4" wire can extend from case. The sensor for monitoring air temperature has a range of -4° F to +158° F (-20° C to +70° C) while maintaining an accuracy of ± 1.3° (0.7° C) at +70° F. Response time in still air:<15 min. with sensor inside case, <1 min. with sensor outside case.

The logger is equipped with a user replaceable internal RH sensor for the monitoring of air humidity with a range of 25% to 95% RH while maintaining an accuracy of ± 5% at room temperature. Still air response time is <10 minutes.

The logger is available with an optional external temperature sensor probe on a 6’ cable. The internal sensor is overridden whenever an external sensor is plugged into the logger.

BoxCar Pro software: The BoxCar Proâ software provides user-friendly and uncomplicated measured data analysis under Dos, Windows (3.1 or up) or Macintosh operating systems. The BoxCar Pro software comes complete with interface cable. Data can be transferred to spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1,2,3.

Display the individual rows of data (temperature, humidity,...) as a graph or in table form by exporting.

Stipulate a pair of limit values. The areas of the graph which lie outside the limits, thus, have a colored background. It is then easier to follow the course of the measured data.

The duration can be selected from 42 possible selections (15 min to 360 days). The interval is automatically calculated from the duration (0.5 sec to 4.8 hr).

Programmable alarm indication.

Set an alarm with high and low limit values. When limits are exceeded, the logger flashes an LED alarm.

Multiple Sampling - Take multiple samples during each measurement interval (about 100 for intervals greater than a minute) and store the highest, lowest, or average of these samples.

All StowAway data loggers have the following features in common:

All StowAway units are powered by a user replaceable 1 year lithium battery.

The three units listed below are available in three different memory configurations. The 2K units stores 1,800 data points, the 8K units stores 7,944 data points, and the 32K unit stores 32,520 measurements.

All StowAway units measure 1.8" tall x 1.9" wide x 0.6" deep.

Nonvolatile EPROM memory retains data even when battery is removed.

A red blinking light indicates the unit is in operation.

Multiple sampling methods: minimum, maximum, or averaging.

Sampling duration is software programmable (see LogBook software).

Start the StowAway with a push of a button, or program a delayed start and stop time using the LogBook software.

StowAway: Temperature Loggers

The StowAway temperature logger is equipped with an internal sensor for monitoring an air temperature range of -34° F to +114° F (-37° C to +46° C) while maintaining an accuracy of ± 0.36° F. Loggers with other temperature ranges are available.

The temperature logger is available with an optional external sensor probe on a 1’, 2’, or 6’ cable. An extension cable is also available for the optional external sensor probe in either 10 or 50 foot lengths. The internal sensor is overridden whenever an external sensor is plugged into the logger.

StowAway: Humidity Loggers

The StowAway humidity logger is equipped with an internal sensor for monitoring an air humidity range of 5% to 95% RH while maintaining an accuracy of ± 5% at room temperature.

Still air response time is only 2 minutes.

StowAway: light intensity Loggers

The StowAway light intensity logger is calibrated to give accurate reading from less than 0.001 lumens/square foot to over 1000 lumens/square foot. Full moonlight is approx. 0.03 lumens/square foot, office lighting is approx. 50 lumens/square foot, and full sunlight is approx. 10,000 lumens/square foot.

Wide spectral response and wide dynamic range.

Use this hygrothermograph for indoor or sheltered outdoor use. The sturdy base, tinted cover, and carrying handle are constructed of lightweight, corrosion-resistant acrylic. The quartz-controlled drive mechanism consistently rotates chart drum even when batteries are weak. Test battery condition with the press of a button. Arten Mechanical Thermohygrometer

The simple design, small size, reliability, and accuracy of the ARTEN Mechanical Thermohygrometer have made it popular with museums internationally. This meter is ideal for use in exhibit cases and microclimate boxes where a low profile is desirable. The dial on the left indicates humidity, and the dial on the right indicates temperature.

The humidity indicator strip on the bottom, which reads from 15% to 75% RH in 10% increments, provides an independent reading to verify that the meter is properly calibrated. ARTEN meters must be calibrated periodically (at least every six months) to insure accuracy. With the Calibration Kit, meter calibration becomes a simple process. The kit contains a set of instructions, a mini-screwdriver, and six calibration packets (enough to calibrate six meters or one meter six times). Each calibration packet consists of an outer moisture impregnable envelope containing a small ziplock polyethylene bag, which in turn contains a silica gel packet conditioned to 43% relative humidity.

Sling Psychrometer

Sling psychrometers are a very reliable instrument to accurately determine percent relative humidity (RH) without the necessity of consulting complex tables. The unit contains a slide rule calculator which correlates wet and dry bulb thermometer indications for direct reading of relative humidity. There is no need to wet the wick each time a reading is taken; this unit has a built-in water reservoir and can be whirled freely in the hand. The 763 Crawford monitor is the latest development in UV measurement. Microprocessor technology is used to give improved accuracy and more information than earlier instruments. Using the 763, measurements can be taken of the proportion of UV present (micro W/lumen), The total amount of UV (mW/M2) and the amount of visible light present (Lux). The 763 will also measure temperature in F° and C° . Earlier instruments would only measure micro W/lumen.

Operation is very simple, the appropriate button is pushed depending on the measurement required and the reading is taken. The unit automatically turns off after 10 seconds or can be set for continuous measurements.

An optional RS-232 computer interface allows connection to any computer using Windows software. This interface allows the display and storage of UV, Lux and temperature results.

Blue Wool Fade Cards

Test for effects of light on paintings, documents, and textiles with Blue Wool Fade Cards. Each card features pieces of wool cloth dyed with blue dyes of different degrees of fastness which are used as lightfastness standards. They allow you to monitor the net exposure to light given to objects on display, and to alert conservators to adjust intensity of illumination. Humidity indicator cards

The standard humidity card (left) measures humidity from 10 to 100%. The maximum humidity card (right) measures both the current humidity from 10 to 100% and the maximum humidity exposure to the card. The maximum humidity portion of the card is based on a 24 hour exposure and is non-reversible. The accuracy of these cards is plus or minus 5 percent. ELSEC Environmental Monitor 764

The ELSEC Environmental Monitor 764 replaces 4 separate instruments. This single instrument enables measurement of the four parameters that cause most damage to buildings, vais the latest development formin UV measurement. Microprocessor technology is used to give improved accuracy and more information than earlier instruments. Using the 763, measurements can be taken of the proportion of UV present (micro W/lumen), The total amount of UV (mW/M2) and the amount of visible light present (Lux). The 763 will also measure temperature in F° and C° . Earlier instruments would only measure micro W/lumen.

An optional RS-232 computer interface allows connection to any computer using Windows software. This interface allows the display and storage of UV, Lux and temperature results.

Art-sorb

Art-Sorb is a high efficiency humidity control agent specifically for the conservation of art. Art collections are very sensitive to geographic regions that have extremes in climate. In order to preserve them from changing RH due to variable atmosphere, it is critical to maintain constant RH in a case. Art-Sorb is a moisture-sensitive silica material which absorbs and desorbs moisture in order to offset changes in external relative humidity. Art-Sorb has over 5 times the moisture buffering capacity of regular density silica gel, therefore requiring far less material.

Art-Sorb is available in three forms at a preconditioned 50% RH, and is also available dry or conditioned to 40% through 70% RH at intervals of 5% at no extra charge (minimum quantities will apply).

Arten Silica Gel Beads

The bead form of Art-Sorb is well suited for all sizes of display cases. Due to its high efficiency it is especially useful for large displays. It can be placed in a drawer, in perforated tubes, shallow trays, or spread out at random virtually anywhere in a display case.

Art-Sorb beads are approximately 1/16" to 1/8" in diameter. To control the humidity within a display case you will need approx. 1oz of Art-Sorb beads per cubic foot.

Art-Sorb Cassettes

Art-Sorb cassettes are a simple, easy to handle and service form of Art-Sorb bead. The cassettes are made of a non-woven polyethylene/poly-propylene material that encases Art-Sorb beads. The cassettes work well in showcases and storage areas.

Full-cassettes measure 13" in length, 4-1/2" in width, 1-1/2" in height and contain 750g of Art-Sorb beads. One full-cassette will control humidity within a 25 cubic foot enclosure.

Half-cassettes measure 13" in length, 4-1/2" in width, 3/4" in height and contain 400g of Art-Sorb beads. One half-cassette will control humidity within a 12 cubic foot enclosure.

Art-Sorb Sheets

The sheets are well suited for use in small showcases, shadowboxes and framed paintings. The sheets can be cut to any appropriate size and be applied to the bottom, sidewalls and even the top of a display case. In display cases the sheets can be concealed by covering them with a thin breathable fabric.

Each sheet measures 20" x 20" square, are 1/16" in thickness and are conditioned to 50% RH (Dry sheets are available upon request). Each sheet contains 100 grams of fine particles of ART-SORB impregnated into a non-woven sheet made of PE/PP fibers. To control the humidity within a display case you will need approx. 1/4 of a sheet (10" x 10") of Art-Sorb per cubic foot.

Beaded Silica Gel

High capacity beaded silica gel is comprised of smooth beads 1/8" in diameter. It offers the same mechanical properties as regular silica gel except with several added characteristics. The beaded form offers low abrasion which greatly reduces breakage of the gel, thus producing far less dust and extended service life.

Silica gel can absorb 40% of its own weight of water. The standard silica gel (whitish in color) remains unchanged in appearance when fully saturated. Blue indicating silica gel starts out bright blue and turns to a pink shade when saturated to approx. 10%, and will keep absorbing up to a maximum of 40%. A cost effective mixture that will meet the needs of most applications can be created using a mixture of 80% standard gel to 20% blue indicating gel. Both types may be regenerated by slowly heating to a temperature above 212° F (but never above 350° F) for approx. 2 hours. Cooling of the heated silica gel must be done in a humidity controlled environment so as not to reabsorb unwanted moisture until needed.

Silica Gel packets

Our silica gel packets are made of Tyvek, an extremely tough, spunbonded polylefin fiber, which ‘breathes’ easily. This allows free passage of water vapor into the desiccant packet, while the closely controlled porosity of the material totally eliminates the passage of desiccant dust out of the packet. These packets can be regenerated easily by a simple heat treatment. Our silica gel packets are available in three sizes and are sold in packages of 10 packets per bag.

REusable Desiccant Canister

Dri-Can is a small, perforated canister (2" x 4" x 1/2") packed with 40 grams of a blue indicating silica gel. The desiccant material within the canister attracts water vapor, condenses it, and holds it. Once it has absorbed all the moisture it can hold, it can be regenerated easily with a simple heat treatment. One Dri-Can will maintain a constant level of humidity in three cubic feet of sealed space.

Oxygen Absorbers

Agelessâ

AgelessÒ is an oxygen absorber developed by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company of Japan. The original intent of this product was to prevent mold and insect growth within food containers by creating an oxygen free environment. This concept was adapted to the conservation field in the form of non-destructive fumigation. Typical fumigation treatments usually entail the exposure of a valuable object to harsh and toxic chemicals to eradicate living organisms living within it. With the introduction of Ageless oxygen absorber, one can now treat a valuable object without any risk of possible damage.

Ageless works on the simple principle that without oxygen, living organisms cannot thrive. Ageless is comprised of powdered iron and salts. When exposed to oxygen, these ingredients chemically react forming iron oxides and hydroxides (better known as rust). During this chemical reaction the oxygen is absorbed, thus producing an oxygen free environment.

Ageless is commonly used in conjunction with heat sealable bags made from oxygen barrier films such as Marvelseal and Aclar. You will need to make or buy a bag that is the proper size to fit the artifact that is to be treated such as a painting, frame, book, etc. The artifact is placed inside the bag with the proper amount of Ageless packets and several Ageless Eye oxygen indicators. Before sealing the bag closed with a tacking iron, remove as much air/volume as practical. After 12-24 hours, the Ageless Eye, which will have turned blue when first placed in the bag, should have returned to a bright pink color. This indicates that Ageless has succeeded in removing the oxygen within the bag. As a general rule, the bag is left sealed for a period of 10-14 days to assure complete pest eradication.

We offer two sizes of Ageless to meet your needs, Ageless Z-500 and Ageless Z-2000. Each Ageless Z-500 packet will remove the oxygen content of approximately 500 ml or 1/2 liter of air which is equal to 30 cu in or .02 cu ft. Ageless Z-500 comes packaged 50 packets per bag, each case contains 20 bags of 50 packets for a total 1000 packets. Each Ageless Z-2000 packet will remove the oxygen content of approximately 2000 ml or 2 liters of air which is equal to 122 cu in or .08 cu ft. Ageless Z-2000 comes packaged 25 packets per bag, each case contains 10 bags of 25 packets for a total 250 packets.

Ageless Eye is an oxygen indicator in the form of a small pink tablet packaged in a plastic wrapper (do not remove tablet from its wrapping). Make a small hole (pin hole size) in the plastic wrapper to allow oxygen in and place the indicator in the bag along with Ageless. The color of the Ageless Eye, which turns blue on contact with oxygen, returns to pink gradually when the oxygen content of the bag becomes zero. Ageless Eye is reuseable if not allowed in contact with oxygen for a prolonged time.

Air Purification Media

Carusorb

Carusorb consists of a special formulation of activated alumina and potassium permanganate which absorbs and oxidizes gaseous air contaminants. It comes in the form of bright purple spheres approximately 1/8" (3mm) in diameter. Due to the sorptive properties of activated alumina, Carusorb quickly absorbs impurities from air to which it is exposed. In addition, oxidizable impurities are ordinarily converted by the potassium permanganate present to carbon dioxide and water. A change in color from purple to brown indicates that potassium permanganate is at work. However, an initial color change does not indicate depletion. Carusorb will continue to oxidize air contaminants until the entire pellet has undergone a color change. Also, measurements of contaminant levels in effluent air can determine the need for replacement of Carusorb. The absorptive properties of activated alumina may continue to function following depletion of potassium permanganate. A guide line for use, and this is only a guide line, is approx. (1) pound per 25 to 50 cu ft of display area for a period of 6 months.

Carusorb is specifically recommended both for identifiable organic chemicals, such as ethylene, formaldehyde, alcohol’s, ketones, ethers and esters and is also useful for applications involving general odor. It is an excellent product for controlling vapors generated by fabrics, coatings, adhesives and solvents, and within enclosed areas such as storage rooms, laboratories and especially display cases.

The OPUS-1D by Lufft is not just another dataloger but an electronic thermo-hygrograph. If you want to see what the temperature and humidity is currently, or over the past day, week or month, you no longer have to remove the unit, take it to a down-loading site, and process the data.
