In the past sixteen years Ms. Potter has seen seventeen of her plays produced, beginning with her award winning "Johanna Out of Wedlock." Winning the Samuel Goldwyn Award in 1982, Ms. Potter went on to win the Sherrill S. Corwin Metropolitan Theatres Creative Writing Award five times for both plays and screenplays. She has received numerous grants for the development of her plays from national and local granting sources.
She is a member of the Writers Guild of America, west, earning her membership by writing half-hour dramas for television.
From 1990 to 1994, Ms. Potter was the Santa Barbara area critic for Drama Logue, and also wrote for various other publications. Current projects include "Proving Heaven," an hour drama series, originally developed for the Odyssey Channel, and now with a Los Angeles production company. Ms. Potter is also a regular columnist for "The Montecito Journal," and the writer/producer for a proposed mini-series for National Geographic on adventure travel. She is a published poet and a classical cellist. She is not related to David Potter, the composer.
Mr. Potter was musical director for "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Concord Pavilion and for "The Baker's Wife" with Wanda Richert. In Los Angeles he has directed many productions, including "They're Playing Our Song" with Joyce Dewitt and Richard Kline, and "Bells Are Ringing," starring Nancy Dussault for the New Place Theatre. In 1992 he musically directed "Into the Woods" for Santa Barbara Theatre Group.
David attended the California Institute of the Arts and the Music Academy of the West where he accompanied for Martial Singher. He has accompanied for many singers including Marni Nixon and Marvin Hayes. David is presently the President of the Contemporary Music Theatre of Santa Barbara, and Music Director at San Roque Catholic Church.
He is not related to Susan Stewart Potter, the librettist.
