iesta, Para los Niños — For the Children. The theme for this year's Old Spanish Days celebration is central to everyone in this community, for it is a thread that is woven through all of us. How many remember long-ago summer days spent preparing for flower girl duties, helping build a float to ride in the children's parade, dancing on stage, or simply enjoying the sights and sounds of Fiesta?

And how many memories will be created this year as a new crop of little Fiesteros follow in the confetti-dotted footsteps of their brothers and sisters, parents and grandparents?

Fiesta, Para los Niños — fun and festive, but above all, it's our community handing down a cherished celebration of heritage and season to the next generation, teaching them to honor tradition in a world that turns on change.

In keeping with the theme, this year's Fiesta features several new events especially for the children, including displays of their artwork at local businesses, and a kid-pleasing kickoff for the big parade, El Desfile Historico. And the old favorites — the children's parade and the mutton bustin' division at the rodeo — are always good for a few chuckles.

So gather up the kids and come dance with us. Party under the full August moon and share the magic that began back in 1924, that always will be.

¡Viva la Fiesta!
