Summary of Critical Link Project

And a Sample Chapter

by

Michael Friedman

The FTP Chapter on this web site is an excerpt from a manual I authored for the Critical Link project. Critical Link is a secure Internet Server, which forms the software component of ATT&T's corporate Internet package, targeted chiefly at Fortune 500 companies. The developer of Critical Link is Internet Dynamics, a software developer based in Westlake Village, CA. Reference and contact information for Internet Dynamics are also on this server.

The first draft of the manual was written using Microsoft Word for Windows. The text was then ported over to FrameMaker, where I did the editing, formatting, indexing, etc.

In addition, I also created an HTML version of the manual for use as an online reference. The chapter offered here is taken from the online manual. The complete version has a hyperlinked index and table of contents.

Please Note:
Since I've put only a single chapter of the manual on the server, all the links to other sections are inactive. This is to prevent your web browser from returning a "file not found" error message if you click on a link.

Music Icon
Let's face it, technical manuals are mainly informational and are rarely fun to read, however well written they may be. So, if you'd like a little high class entertainment to make your experience a bit more rhapsodic, click the music icon at the top of the chapter. If your browser supports midi files, you'll hear something by one of America's greatest composers. Please be patient while the file loads. And, in case you're curious, it's not part of the original manual.
Feel free to phone or e-mail me if you wish to see hard copy samples of this and/or other technical writing projects I have worked on.
